Blake Martindale, LCSW, LCDC

My name is Blake Martindale and I am a licensed clinical social worker specializing in treating adults and teenage males (9th grade +). Originally from Dallas, I recently relocated to Amarillo with my wife and business partner, Cami Martindale, to start our counseling private practice.

Before becoming a therapist I had a career in luxury hospitality in Palm Beach, Florida and extensive work, education, and travel abroad, primarily in Asia and the South Pacific. I knew early in life I was destined to become a therapist, but it took until my thirties for me to embrace this as my true vocation. As a person with lived experience, I am uniquely qualified for this work. I know the struggle. I did not just read about it in a textbook.

My style/philosophy:

I have over seven years of experience helping adults and teenage males navigate and overcome substance use issues, relationship challenges, and life-stage transitions. My approach is holistic and candidly forthright, drawing upon Existential (meaning-making), Gestalt (here-and-now), Depth Psychology (the unconscious) and Somatic movement to move beyond surface-level fixes toward true, lasting change.

I believe the foundation of growth is a safe, empathetic relationship. My style is direct yet supportive, incorporating role modeling and a focus on the "whole person." This means we don’t just talk; we integrate your physical, mental, and emotional health. Mental health challenges do not have to plague your existence. The goal is for you to get better and live life to the fullest.

When I am not in session, I am a husband, caretaker to our two dogs – Goldie and Zoey, and an avid student of the world. I am currently deepening my roots in the community by undertaking the Texas A&M Master Gardener Program.

Intake paperwork will be electronically provided prior to the first session and will be reviewed during this initial session. This first session is a good time to get to know me and my style, as well as set initial goals.

  • Who do I treat as clients?

    • I primarily treat high school aged males and beyond. The typical individual is aged 14 and older. My experience is extensive in treating males and includes supervisory roles in a teenage boy's residential treatment facility, forensic therapist in a men's prison, outpatient psychotherapy and the primary substance use/active duty military therapist at a private inpatient psychiatric hospital outside Dallas. I have in-depth, practical, hands-on knowledge regarding substance use, serious mental illnesses, depression, anxiety, suicide, self-harm, and trauma.

    • Regarding high school aged males: I primarily treat youth facing life challenges, substance use issues, truancy troubles, boys of divorced families, custody disputes, and any other behavioral-type troubles.

      • A parent or care giver is required to come to the first session to establish care. The parents or primary care givers have a role in therapy but most of the work will be 1:1 between myself and the client. If you are seeking out family therapy specifically I can provide recommendations.

  • Why choose me to treat your high school aged boy or young adult? What's the approach?

    • My approach with high school aged boys and young men is relaxed but grounded, creating a space where they feel understood and respected. I also believe it is important for young men to have an older adult male in their life, in addition to their father/male care giver, that has their best interest at hand and can be a guide navigating early adulthood. It is my opinion this void and the lack of male influence in society is a primary reason so many young men are struggling. I often utilize Dr. Leonard Sax's book, Boy's Adrift, when working with young men. Dr. Leonard Sax highlights how modern challenges (like video games, school pressures, and shifting cultural messages about masculinity) can leave boys feeling unmotivated or adrift—and how rebuilding purpose, connection, and healthy role models helps them thrive.
